The DDR Museum showcases everyday life in former East Germany (GDR) in a lively,
interactive and hands-on exhibit. Life in the GDR is presented showing all its facets:
Free German Youth (FDJ – East German socialist youth organization), Ministry for
State Security (Stasi), Trabant car (Trabi), Plattenbau (typical large-panel system
building in the GDR whose structure is built of large, prefabricated concrete slabs),
Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and much more. Visitors are taken on an extraordinary
journey through the socialist past: they can take a seat in a Trabi, dance the Lipsi
dance (socialist dance invented in 1959) or look through the cupboards of an authentic
living room in a GDR flat. Touching of the exhibited objects is expressly welcomed!
